Mortice lock replacement in Wombwell, Barnsley

We recently attended a property in Wombwell, Barnsley. An elderly homeowner had trouble inserting her key into the mortice lock on her wooden front door.

The problem had become increasingly frustrating. Sometimes, the key entered normally. At other times, it would not go into the lock.

Worn mortice lock curtain causing problems

On inspection, we found the internal curtain was badly worn. It was moving out of position and preventing the key from entering consistently.

The lock was about 15 years old and showed general wear and tear. Rather than risk further problems, replacing the complete mortice lock was the most reliable solution.

A key that will not enter a mortice lock properly isn’t always faulty. A worn or displaced internal curtain can prevent the key from entering the mechanism.

ERA Fortress British Standard mortice lock fitted

We removed the old lock and fitted a new ERA Fortress five-lever British Standard mortice lock. The new lock meets BS 3621 security requirements.

The replacement restored reliable operation without replacing the existing wooden front door.
